BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Six members of the distance team from Central Michigan track and field qualified for the MAC Indoor Championships Friday at the Gladstein Invitational.
Junior Breanne Lesnar led the way for the women in the 5,000-meter race finishing third overall in a time of 17:02.58. Senior Krista Parks and junior Abbey Kelto finished sixth and seventh 17:23.96 and 17:30.69 respectively. The trio all posted marks well enough to qualify them for the MAC Indoor Championships next month.
Sophomore Nate Ghena and redshirt freshman Spencer Nousain also qualified for the MAC meet in the 5,000-meter race, claiming the top two spots. Ghena just edged his teammate for first place, crossing the finish line in 14.47.12, while Nousain finished in 14:47.54.
The last MAC qualifier of the day was Ethan Lievense in the 3,000-meter race. The junior ran to an eighth place finish in 8:27.36.
On the women’s side of the 3,000-meter race, redshirt freshman Kelly Schubert finished second overall with a time of 9:59.37. Close behind was teammate Alyssa Dyer with a fourth place finish in 9:59.93. Freshman Katie Weiler claimed a top-20 spot crossing the finish line in 10:21.48.
The Chippewas are back in action next weekend when they travel to Ypsilanti for the Compass Cup.
