CMU Closes Out Competition at NCAA Track and Field Preliminaries

On Friday, senior Renaldo Powell fell just short of advancing to the quarterfinals of the 110m hurdles, missing the qualifying time by only .01. Powell ran a 14.05 to finish 25th overall despite not practicing since the MAC Championships due to injury. The 2012 indoor track and field MAC champion in the 60m hurdles has an indoor season of eligibility remaining.
Appearing at the NCAA regionals for the second time in her career, senior Maddie Ribant bested her previous NCAA time by more than 14 seconds, posting a time of 10:39.40 to finish 42nd. Ribant departs CMU as the school’s record holder in the steeplechase (10:34.07).
Sophomore Ethan Lievense and Ben Wynsma placed 28th and 44th, respectively, in the 3000m steeplechase. Lievense recorded a time of 9:04.98 while Wynsma finished the race in 9:36.67.
On Saturday, freshman Kyleigh Young competed in the javelin, placing 34th overall. Her longest throw of the day measured 42.77m.
