TAMPA, Fla. - The Central Michigan track and field team continued its success down at the University of South Florida Bulls Invitational this weekend with four athletes recording qualifying marks.
"It was a good meet. Everyone had a good attitude and worked together to help each other. I was proud of them," said director of track and field Willie Randolph
Junior Sam Stein and freshman Marsielle McBeam finished third and fourth in the high jump, all while qualifying for the 2013 MAC Outdoor Championships. Stein and McBeam both jumped 5-06.
Freshman Craig Mauldin qualified in the triple jump with a mark of 45-10.75, which placed him in fourth. Teammate Michael Johnson finished sixth with a jump of 42-20.
Freshman Micaela Conter finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 11-5.75.
Junior Parker Scott and freshman Ziemowit Dutkiewicz finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 400mH. Scott ran a 54.91 and Dutkiewicz ran a 54.95.
Coach Randolph complimented a couple of his upperclassmen who stepped up. Seniors Emily Dienhart, Renaldo Powell and junior Clay Holman all competed in multiple events and were able to encourage their teammates.
"Dienhart, Powell and Holman lead the team today. Each of them were able to have a strong outing, while leading and encouraging the team."
Deinhart competed in the high jump (5-02.25) and the 100mH (8th, 14.35).
Holman competed in the 4x100 relay (4th, 41.96, Powell, Dee Smith, William Askew), 4x400 relay (3rd, 3:18.12, Scott, Dutkiewicz, Clinton Cargill), 400m (9th, 49.15).
Powell competed in the 4x100 relay (4th, 41.96, Holman, Dee Smith, William Askew) and qualified for the MAC meet in the 110mH (4th, 14.45).
