Guevara Inks Bendle Star Jacqueline Simpson to NLI

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan head coach Sue Guevara has landed yet another high-profile Michigan recruit, as Bendle High School star Jacqueline Simpson signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Chippewas Wednesday morning.

Simpson (Burton, Mich./Bendle HS) averaged 16.6 points per game during her junior season with the Tigers, but gained national attention on the AAU circuit with the Michigan Mystics. She was named Genesee Area-Blue First-Team All-League following the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons and was a second-team selection her sophomore year.

"Jacqueline is a big guard," Guevara said. "She is strong, athletic and can shoot the three. She is one of those players that will fit really nicely in our offense because of her versatility. She has a very good work ethic and her AAU coach Mark Barkman is a very good fundamental teacher. She is a competitor and a kid we really like in our program."

A multi-sport athlete, Simpson led her team to a district championship in volleyball as an all-league player and was also named all-league and all-district in softball in 2012.

"She is a Michigan kid from the Flint area and we've done really well recruiting wise staying in state, particularly over in that area," Guevara said. "There is talent over in that area and we want to continue to recruit that area and bring in that talent."
