The food drive brought in 3,400 food items to the American Red Cross.
"This was the biggest food drive of the fiscal year for the Red Cross," said Irene Little with the American Red Cross. "CMU's student-athletes very generously helped fill the food shelves and we appreciate the continued support from them."
"It is important for our student-athletes to be involved in the community," said Kristin Teubner, a gymnastics Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member. "We are making a difference locally and showing the surrounding community that we care about them as much as they care about, and support us as student-athletes.
Student-athletes from every available sport participated. Meijer also donated a $50 gift card for food to be bought and donated.
If community members missed the CMU food drive and would like to make a donation, the American Red Cross, in partnership with the Salvation Army, will be in front of Ric's on Nov. 18 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., taking donations to feed close to 250 families for Thanksgiving.
The American Red Cross Food Pantry is located in downtown Mount Pleasant and accepts donations throughout the year.
