Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Eastern Michigan's Khodor Hoballah pinned Central Michigan's Adam Robinson with just 33 seconds left on the clock on Thursday night as the Chippewas dropped their Mid-American Conference finale, 18-16.
The Chippewas (8-8, 4-4 MAC) had won 22-straight meetings versus the Eagles (12-7, 2-4) and appeared to be on their way to a 23rd-straight victory as they led by as much as 16-6 following a decision by Mike Ottinger at 174 pounds.
Redshirt freshman Nick Becker gave the Maroon and Gold some cushion with a dominant 10-2 major decision prior to Ottinger's win. The Chippewas won five of the first seven matches as senior Joe Roth (133), sophomore Zach Horan (141) and senior Scott Mattingly (149) each earned decisions.
The Eagles started their comeback with a 5-1 decision by Phillip Joseph over Craig Kelliher at 184 and Jackson Lewis had control of his match at 197 but was unable to secure a victory.
Robinson was in control the heavyweight match, taking a 2-1 lead into the third period on a takedown in the second period, but Hoballah chose to start on top and after earning three back points, turned Robinson again and claimed the victory by fall.
CMU will be back in action Sunday when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the NWCA National Duals. The Chippewas will open the tournament versus No. 18 Northern Illinois.
