Chippewas set to open MAC play at home vs. Toledo

Mount Pleasant, Mich. - The Central Michigan Women’s Volleyball team returns home this weekend to open Mid-American Conference play versus west division foes Toledo and Ball State.

The Chippewas (6-6) will kick off the MAC season against the Rockets (7-6) on Friday at 7 p.m, followed by a match versus the Cardinals (12-3) on Saturday at 7 p.m.

• The Chippewas swept both the Rockets and the Cardinals last season.

• CMU libero Jenna Coates has had a stellar season thus far, achieving the rank of 18th in the country in digs per set with 5.23.

• Coates’ season average of 5.23 digs per set is up from last season’s mark of 4.88 digs per set. This pace puts her within striking distance of the number two spot on CMU’s all time leaders in digs for a career, currently held by Ali McCrite (2003-06).

• Approaching a higher spot of her own, junior outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre needs just eight kills to move past Sarah Warner for seventh all time on CMU’s career rally kill list. She has 166 kills on the season. McIntyre is also just 29 kills shy of becoming the 17th member of the CMU 1,000 kill club.

• McIntyre is currently averaging 3.95 kills per set, up from her career average of 3.37 kills per set last season. This rate would currently place her at second all time in kills per set average at CMU, if her career were to end today.

• Senior setter Kelly Maxwell is having a strong season, averaging 11.43 assist per game for the Chippewas.  Her 3,083 career assists ranks her third on CMU’s all time career assists list. Maxwell is currently ranked 15th in the nation in assists per set with 11.43, and leads the Mid-American Conference in that category.

• Toledo is coming off a runner up finish at the Butler Invitational after losing to host Butler. They are led by the play of senior outside hitter Lauren Rafdal (3.59 kills/set) and senior setter Adria Pryor (9.86 assists/set).

• On Saturday, the Chippewas will face off against Ball State in a showcase of two of the MAC's marquee offenses, as the teams rank 1-2 in both kills and assists in the MAC. Ball State leads the conference in kills with the Chippewas close behind, and the Chippewas hold a slight lead in assists per game over the cardinals.

• The Cardinals are ranked 17th in the nation in kills per set with (14.43) while the Chippewas rank 23rd with 14.21 kills per set.

•The Cardinals are led in kills by junior outside hitter Alex Fluelling, who has accumulated 180 kills at a 3.83 per set clip thus far.

• The Chippewas rank 18th in the nation with 13.42 assists per set, while the Cardinals rank 24th with 13.34 assists per set.
