Tale of the Tape CMU News and Notes

The Series
Central Michigan enters the weekend holding a 47-15 advantage over Akron in the all time series and have won eight of the last nine meetings.

Scouting the Zips
Despite a 13-32 record overall, Akron enters the weekend on a bit of a hot streak having won four of its last five games. The Zips opened the stretch with a 6-1 victory over No. 17 Pittsburgh before taking two of three versus Western Michigan and defeating Penn State earlier this week, 11-2.

The Zips are just a half a game behind CMU in the MAC overall standings with a 8-12 record in conference play.

Big Weekend at the Ball Park
With the final home weekend of the year at Theunissen Stadium on tap, the baseball program will host a pair of special events. Saturday will mark the 21st annual baseball homecoming with alumni and parents of alumni invited to join the Chippewas for a special day of events. Sunday will mark Senior Day where the  Maroon and Gold will recognize the efforts of their four seniors - Jordan Adams, Tom Lally, Randon Henika and Rick Dodridge

Triple Threat
Freshman Logan Regnier continued his tear on the base paths Wednesday afternoon, recording his seventh triple of the season. Regnier is tied for second in the country in triples and is just four shy of the CMU single-season record of 11 set by Tyler Hall in 2011.

Tom's Time
Senior Tom Lally, who had made just seven starts in the Chippewas' first 37 games, last started seven of the last 10 contests and it has paid off. Lally is batting .423 (11-for-28) with eight runs, five RBI and a pair of doubles during the stretch and is reaching base at a clip of .485 with four walks and a hit by pitch.

Pitchers Feel at Home
The Central Michigan pitching staff has been brilliant inside the friendly confines of Theunissen Stadium all season, posting a 2.46 earned run average in 13 contests. Sophomore Jordan Foley has posted a 0.86 ERA in three home starts, while senior Rick Dodridge is 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA in three starts at home in 2013. Freshman Taylor Lehnert has started just once at home this season, but the right hander threw his first career complete game against Eastern Michigan on April 27.
