SETTING THE SCENE
• Winners of three of its last four games, Central Michigan will look to move to .500 on the season and gain bowl eligibility when it visits FBS newcomer UMass for a Black Friday clash of first-time MAC foes.
• The game, which will be played at the New England Patriots’ Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., is scheduled for a 3 p.m. kick on November 23.
• Central Michigan has never faced UMass on the gridiron in program history but has recently played a game in the state of Massachusetts, meeting Boston College in Chestnut Hill in 2009, a 31-10 loss.
• The Chippewas’ regular season finale will not be televised but the Central Michigan IMG Sports Network will provide audio coverage of the game with Don Chiodo, Brock Gutierrez, and Brian Brunner calling the action.

WHAT TO KNOW/WHAT TO LOOK FOR
• Junior running back Zurlon Tipton needs 78 rushing yards to break into the top 10 in the CMU single-season rushing charts.
• Tipton could move up in the CMU single-season charts in rushing touchdowns (15) and touchdowns scored (16).
• Two Chippewas are in the midst of streaks - Zurlon Tipton has rushed for more than 100 yards in five consecutive games while senior receiver Cody Wilson has caught at least one pass in 40 consecutive games.
• Sophomore receiver Titus Davis needs 11 receiving yards to break into the top 10 in the CMU single-season receiving charts.
• Senior quarterback Ryan Radcliff is in position to potentially move up in the CMU single-season charts top 10 in four categories (passing yards, passing attempts, touchdowns, and total offense).
• Radcliff ranks 91st all-time in NCAA history in passing yardage with 9,587 yards. If he reaches his season average of 256.6 versus UMass he would rise to No. 82, surpassing the likes of Florida State’s Chris Weinke, Michigan’s Chad Henne, and Tennessee’s Casey Clausen.
• CMU has scored 30 or more points in five straight games and is averaging 33.8 points in its five wins.

ADDAE EARNS MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
• Senior safety Jahleel Addae was named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week for his standout performance in Central Michigan’s 30-16 home win over Miami (Ohio).
• Addae, in his final appearance in the Maroon and Gold at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, recorded his second straight double digit tackle game, totaling 10, including seven solos and 1.5 for a loss, to go along with half of a sack, and an interception, his team-high third of the season.
• Addae’s second quarter interception of Miami quarterback Zac Dysert turned the tide of the game in CMU’s favor.
• With the score tied at 7-7, the RedHawks were driving for the go-ahead touchdown but Addae snagged a tipped ball out of the air at the one-yard line and returned it 16 yards, ending the threat. • The Chippewas then drove the field and scored a touchdown to take a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.
• A 2011 First Team All-MAC selection and preseason Jim Thorpe Award candidate, Addae ranks fourth on the team in total tackles (73) and solo stops (32) and has two sacks for a loss of 16 yards and four pass break-ups.

WILSON NAMED A WUERFFEL TROPHY FINALIST
• For the second consecutive year, senior wide receiver Cody Wilson has been selected as a finalist for the Wuerrfel Trophy, the national award that honors the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with outstanding academic and athletic achievement.
• Wilson has committed himself to making a difference in the lives of others through his involvement in various humanitarian and community service initiatives.
• He has led or organized mission trips to Georgia and Florida to build or restore houses for the homeless with Habitat for Humanity, is actively involved in mentoring elementary and middle school-aged children, and is a leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes on the CMU campus.
• Wilson has established himself as one of the greatest receivers in program history ranking third and fifth, respectively, in the CMU record book with 215 receptions and 2,602 receiving yards for his career.
• This season, Wilson, a team co-captain, leads the Chippewas with 59 receptions and ranks second in receiving yards (713) and receiving yards per game (64.8)
• Also an excellent student, Wilson boasts a 3.66 grade point average in marketing and was recently voted a Capital One Academic All-District® First Team honoree for the third consecutive year.

SCOUTING UMASS
• On the heels of the program’s first-ever FBS win two weeks ago, a 22-14 road victory over Akron,  UMass fell to Buffalo, 29-19, last Saturday in Foxborough.
• The Minutemen held a 13-0 halftime lead but were outscored by the Bulls, 29-6, in the second half to suffer its sixth MAC and 10th overall loss of the season.
• Redshirt freshman quarterback Mike Wegzyn heads a UMass offense that is averaging 11.1 points per game.
• Wegzyn has thrown for 1,610 yards with five touchdowns and eight interceptions and has also rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns.
• Senior wide receiver Deion Walker leads the Minutemen in receptions (47) and yards (537) while senior running back Alan Williams has a team-best four receiving touchdowns.
• Senior running back Michael Cox (618 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns) headlines the UM ground game.
• Senior linebacker Perry McIntyre is UMass’ top tackler, recording 101, including 53 solo stops, on the season.
• Nine different Minutemen defenders have registered interceptions in 2012, led by two from Darren Thellen and Khary Bailey-Smith.

BROCK GUTIERREZ TO SERVE AS HONORARY CAPTAIN
• Brock Gutierrez was a four-year letterwinning member of the Chippewas football team from 1992-95.
• A three-year starter at center, he helped CMU capture the 1994 MAC Championship and earn a bid to the Las Vegas Bowl.
• That season, Gutierrez also helped pave the way for First Team All-America running back Brian Pruitt to put together the single greatest rushing season in program history.
• In 1995, Gutierrez was recognized with First Team All-MAC honors.
• Following his standout career at CMU, he signed a free agent contract with Cincinnati and went on to play 10 years in the NFL with the Bengals, San Francisco 49ers, and Detroit Lions.
• In 2007, Gutierrez was inducted into the Central Michigan Athletics Hall of Fame.
• For the past three seasons, he has been a member of the Central Michigan IMG Sports Network football broadcasting team, serving as a color analyst.

CMU IN THE MAC RANKINGS
• Central Michigan ranks No. 1 in the MAC in red zone offense (14th nationally), converting on 35-of-39 trips inside the 20-yard line (89.7%).
• The Chippewas have scored 24 touchdowns (14 run, 10 pass) and are 11-for-11 on field goal attempts inside the red zone.
• CMU also continues to be ranked No. 1 in the conference in total penalties (45), penalty yardage (402), and penalty yardage per game (36.5)
• Individually, sophomore receiver Titus Davis is first among the MAC’s top pass catchers with a 20.0 yards per reception average.
• Junior running back Zurlon Tipton is ranked No. 1 in rushing touchdowns by a running back (15) and tied for second in scoring, averaging 8.7 points per game.
• Redshirt sophomore linebacker Justin Cherocci ranks first in the conference in assisted tackles (78) and is fifth in total tackles (112).

DAVIS’ STAR CONTINUES TO RISE
• Sophomore wide receiver Titus Davis accounted for 41 percent of Central Michigan’s 506 total yards of offense versus Western Michigan, catching 10 passes for a career-high 208 yards and one touchdown.
• Davis’ 208 receiving yards was the second highest total in the nation in week 10 and ranks third all-time in the CMU record book for single game efforts.
• Seven of his career-best tying 10 receptions went for first downs and registered double-digit gains of yardage.
• His 58-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter was his eighth scoring catch of the season, equaling his total from his freshman season and tying him for sixth in the CMU record book.
• Davis’ 16 touchdowns (in 23 collegiate games) also ties him for sixth all-time in program history.
• With a team-high 860 yards through 11 games, he needs just 11 yards to break into the top 10 of the CMU single season receiving yards list.
• Of the approximately 100 players listed in the three major receiving statistical categories (total receiving yards, receiving yards per game, and reception per game) by the NCAA, Davis ranks No. 1 in the nation with a 20.0 yards per catch average among players with more than 33 receptions.

TIPTON HAVING BREAKOUT SEASON
• With 110 yards on the ground in the win over Eastern Michigan, junior running back Zurlon Tipton surpassed the 1,000-yard barrier for the season for the first time in his career.
• Tipton extended his consecutive games with 100-plus yards streak to five in the 30-16 win over Miami (Ohio).
• Tipton’s 1,206 yards are the most by a Chippewas running back since Jerry Seymour totaled 1,284 in 2004.
• Averaging 109.6 rushing yards per game in 2012, he is ranked seventh in the MAC and 20th in the NCAA.
• Tipton is tied for fifth in the CMU single season record charts in rushing touchdowns (15) and total touchdowns (16).
• Averaging 8.7, Tipton is tied for second in the MAC in points per game.

WILSON HAVING STRONG SENIOR SEASON
• Senior receiver Cody Wilson leads CMU with 59 receptions and ranks ninth in the conference in receptions per game (5.4).
• Wilson has recorded four 100-yard receiving games in 2012, tied for second in the MAC.
• With 215 receptions and 2,602 yards receiving for his career, he ranks third and fifth, respectively, in the CMU record book.
• Wilson has caught at least one pass in 40 consecutive games, the second longest active streak in the nation.

RADCLIFF IN THE CMU RECORD BOOK
• With one game remaining left to play in his senior season, Ryan Radcliff is ranked second in school history in passing yards (9,582), completions (781), passing attempts (1,299), touchdown passes (61), total offense (9,413), and 300-yard passing games (14).
• Radcliff also holds a prominent place in the CMU single-season charts, as three of his individual seasons rank in the top 10 in five categories (yards passing, passing attempts, passes completed, touchdown passes, and total offense).
• In 2012, Radcliff has thrown for 2,774 yards with 19 touchdowns.
• In 2011, he ranked in the top 20 nationally in passing yards for the second straight season, and in eight MAC games last season, he threw for a league-high 2,491 yards (311.4 ypg) and tied for the MAC lead with 19 touchdown passes.

CHEROCCI AND BENTON LEADING THE DEFENSE
• Redshirt sophomore linebacker Justin Cherocci and redshirt junior linebacker Shamari Benton have made their presence felt on the defense in 2012.
• Cherocci has led CMU in tackles in six of 11 games, including the first three of the season, and notched a team-high six double-digit tackle games thus far this season.
• Cherocci leads CMU with 112 total tackles and is ranked first in the MAC and the nation in assisted tackles (78).
• Benton established himself as CMU’s leading tackler for a mid-season stretch of four straight games and then again versus Miami (Ohio).
• Benton is first on the team with 41 solo tackles and ranks second with 104 total tackles.
• Cherocci and Benton rank No. 5 and No. 6 in the MAC, respectively, in total tackles.

EXPERIENCE UP FRONT
• CMU’s starting five offensive linemen include three seniors who have combined for 92 career starts: Darren Keyton (34), Eric Fisher (32), and Mike Repovz (26).
• Senior right tackle Jake Olson, who has missed the last nine games with an injury, has 26 careers starts to his credit.
• Sophomore Andy Phillips started five games in his freshman season of 2011 and all 11 games this year.
• Redshirt freshman center Nick Beamish, who has also been in the starting line-up for all 11 games of 2012, will be a mainstay in the middle of the CMU line for the next three-plus years.

TIPTON’S CAREER DAY POWERS CMU PAST AKRON
• Junior running back Zurlon Tipton rushed his way into the Central Michigan football records books with career highs in yards (243), attempts (37), and touchdowns (3) to help lead the Chippewas past Akron, 35-14, on October 27.
• Tipton’s 243-yard effort is tied for eighth all-time on CMU’s single game rushing list and makes him the first Chippewa to break the 200-yard barrier on the ground since 2010 when Paris Cotton ran for 207 versus Eastern Michigan.
• Tipton started the game fast, taking a hand off on CMU’s second play from scrimmage and racing down the sideline for a career-long 72-yard touchdown.
• He would go on to add scoring runs from five and six yards out to equal his career high of three touchdowns set earlier this year in the win over Southeast Missouri State.
• Tipton also far surpassed his previous career best of 180 rushing yards and over doubled his prior single game high in attempts (18).
• Tipton earned MAC West Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in career for his workhorse effort versus Akron.

OHIO STATE ADDED TO 2016 SCHEDULE
• Central Michigan recently announced the addition of Ohio State to the 2016 non-conference schedule, setting up the first ever meeting between the Chippewas and the Buckeyes.
• The game will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at historic Ohio Stadium in Columbus.
• Central Michigan’s 2016 non-conference schedule also features a home match-up with UNLV and a road game versus Oklahoma State.
• Ohio State is the fourth Big Ten opponent on future CMU schedules, joining Michigan, Purdue, and Michigan State.
• The Chippewas will open the 2013 season versus the Wolverines, travel to meet Purdue in West Lafayette in 2014, and will face Michigan State in East Lansing in 2015 and 2018.
• Earlier this season, Central Michigan earned its fifth win in program history over a Big Ten school, knocking off Iowa, 32-31, in Iowa City.

HARMAN’S HEROICS LIFTS CMU TO WIN OVER IOWA
• Senior kicker David Harman booted a career-long 47-yard field goal with three seconds remaining to lift Central Michigan to a thrilling, come-from-behind 32-31 win over Iowa at Kinnick Stadium last weekend.
• The kick completed an epic rally that saw the Chippewas score nine points in the game’s final 45 seconds.
• The win was CMU’s first over a Big Ten opponent since September 12, 2009 when the Chippewas similarly used a last second field goal to knock off instate rival Michigan State 29-27 in East Lansing.
• Sophomore wide receiver Titus Davis (5-74) scored two touchdowns in a game for the fourth time in his young career while wide receiver Cody Wilson had a game-high eight catches for 105 yards.
• Radcliff was named MAC West Co-Offensive Player of the Week while Harman earned Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.
• Quarterback Ryan Radcliff completed 74% of the his passes, throwing for a season-high 283 yards.
• Harman was perfect on the day, going 4-for-4 on field goals and 2-for-2 on PATs.

CLASH AT KELLY/SHORTS SETS HOME ATTENDANCE RECORD
• The September 8th Clash at Kelly/Shorts between CMU and in-state rival Michigan State set a new stadium attendance record.
• An enthusiastic crowd numbering 35,127 turned out for the historic meeting, which featured the Spartans’ first-ever visit to Mount Pleasant.
• The seating capacity at Kelly/Shorts Stadium was increased prior to the 2012 season with the addition of bleachers to the student section (2,450) and the installation of suites (180) on the east concourse, both of which will remain in place throughout the 2012 season.
• Previously, the largest crowd inside Kelly/Shorts Stadium was 30,302, set on October 18, 2008, a 38-28 win over Western Michigan.

CMU’S ROSTER IS HOME GROWN
• CMU’s roster contains more players who hail from the state of Michigan than any other Division I program in the state, featuring 68.
• Michigan State ranks second with 50 followed by Michigan (38), Eastern Michigan (35), and Western Michigan (28).

SCHEDULE NOTES
• For just the third time in the modern era, Central Michigan played seven homes games during the 2012 season.
• CMU opened the season with back-to-back home games for the first time since 2002 when the Chippewas hosted Sam Houston State and Wyoming in weeks one and two.
• CMU had two Big Ten opponents on the schedule for the first time since the 2008 season when the Chippewas went on the road to face Purdue and Indiana.
• The 2012 season marked the 15th consecutive year the Chippewas have played at least one Big Ten opponent.
• CMU hosted a Big Ten opponent this year (Michigan State) in Kelly/Shorts Stadium for the first time since Indiana visited Mount Pleasant in 2005.
• CMU will play MAC and FBS newcomer UMass for the first time in program history in 2012.
• CMU plays three straight road games (at Iowa, Northern Illinois, and Toledo) followed by four consecutive home contests (Navy, Ball State, Akron, and Western Michigan).

ADDAE NAMED TO THORPE AWARD WATCH LIST
• Senior safety Jahleel Addae was on the Preseason Watch List for the Jim Thorpe Award, presented to the nation’s best defensive back in college football.
• Addae currently ranks fourth on the team in solo tackles (32) and total tackles (73) and has recorded 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a team-high three interceptions, and four pass break-ups.
• Addae tied for the Mid-American Conference lead with four interceptions in 2011, ranked eighth in tackles per game (8.9) and ninth in total tackles (107).
• He recorded 10-plus tackles in five games, including a career-high 18 versus Northern Illinois – a game in which he also had two interceptions and forced a fumble in a victory over the eventual MAC champion Huskies.
• Addae was named a First Team All-MAC selection in 2011.

JASON WILSON’S FIRST CAREER INTERCEPTION GOES FOR SIX
• Sophomore cornerback Jason Wilson had a memorable first career interception, picking off Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook and taking it back 55-yards for a touchdown.
• The fourth quarter interception for a score was the longest by a CMU player since Avery Cunningham returned a pick 63 yards for a touchdown versus Bowling Green on October 30, 2010.
• Wilson recorded his first collegiate interception and touchdown in just his second game at the cornerback position.
• Wilson player wide receiver as a freshman, catching nine passes for 106 yards.

RUSHING ATTACK FUELS WIN
• In the 38-27 season opening win over Southeast Missouri State, Central Michigan rushed for 324 yards, its highest total since 2009 when it compiled 326 versus Akron.
• The Chippewas’ rushing attack was led by junior Zurlon Tipton, who ran for a then-career-high 180 yards on 17 carries.
• Sophomore Anthony Garland added 102 yards on the ground, giving CMU two 100-yard rushers in a game for the first time since 1999.

HARMAN HITS 2012 SEASON’S OPENING KICK
• According to the Lou Groza Award committee, Central Michigan’s David Harman was the first FBS kicker to make a field goal in the 2012 season.
• The senior’s 24-yard field goal at the 8:53 mark of the first quarter provided the Chippewas with a 3-0 lead over Southeast Missouri State.
• After that kick, Harman made five consecutive field goals, including a career-long 47-yard game winner in CMU’s 32-31 road upset of Iowa on Sept. 22 before missing a 42-yarder in the loss to Northern Illinois.
• Through 11 games, Harman has connected on 14-of-18 field goals and 34-of-35 PATs.

FUTURE NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS ANNOUNCED
• Striving to not only challenge the team but provide Chippewas fans with exciting games to attend and view, CMU has secured series with top-quality non-conference opponents from the ACC, Big 12, and Mountain West Conference.
• Coming to Mount Pleasant in the coming years will be North Carolina State (2014), Oklahoma State (2015), UNLV (2016), and Kansas (2018).
• The Chippewas will also take on North Carolina State (2013), UNLV (2013), Kansas (2014, 2017), and Oklahoma State (2016, 2018) on the road.

EIGHT CMU GAMES BROADCAST NATIONALLY IN 2012
• Eight Central Michigan football games have been broadcast nationally in 2012.
• Contests versus Southeast Missouri State (Aug. 30), at Northern Illinois (Sept. 29), at Toledo (Oct. 6), and against Ball State (Oct. 20) and Western Michigan (Nov. 3) were streamed online on ESPN3.
• The Clash at Kelly/Shorts with Michigan State on September 8 was aired on ESPNU while CMU’s game versus Navy on October 12 will be shown on ESPN2.
• Since the start of the 2007 season, CMU is 21-20 in 41 appearances on the ESPN family of networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Plus, ESPN Regional, ESPN3).
• The Chippewas made their fourth all-time appearance on the Big Ten Network on September 22 when it faced Iowa at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
• CMU is 2-2 on the BTN, topping Indiana, 37-34, in 2008 and Iowa, 32-31, in 2012 while falling to Purdue (32-25) in 2008 and to Northwestern in (30-25) in 2010.

NEW UNIFORMS UNVEILED
• Eight uniform combinations, including all-black and all-gold uniforms, for the 2012 Central Michigan football season were unveiled prior to the season.
• Designed by adidas, the new uniform line features four outfits with the same color jersey and pants - black, gold, maroon and white - and four additional combinations created from mixing and matching the gold, maroon and white items.
• Also revealed along with the black uniform is a new black helmet with a matte finish and a tapering maroon and gold stripe down the middle.
• The maroon helmet will continue to be worn with the other seven combinations.
• A different jersey combination will we worn for each home game; no one outside the locker room will know what it is until warm-ups.

2012 TEAM CAPTAINS
• As voted on by the players, senior defensive back Jahleel Addae, senior defensive lineman Joe Kinville, and senior wide receiver Cody Wilson will serve as Central Michigan’s captains for the 2012 season.

CHIPPEWAS IN THE NFL
• Seven former Chippewas currently reside on NFL rosters: linebacker Nick Bellore (New York Jets), wide receiver Antonio Brown (Pittsburgh Steelers), defensive back Josh Gordy (Indianapolis Colts), defensive end Cullen Jenkins (Philadelphia Eagles), offensive lineman Joe Staley (San Francisco 49ers) and linebacker Frank Zombo (Green Bay Packers).
• Zombo, who spent the first nine weeks of the 2012 season on the Physically Unable to Perform List, was recently added to the Packers’ active roster and will be eligible to play when Green Bay visits Detroit on November 18.
• Defensive back Vince Agnew is a member of the Dallas Cowboys practice’ squad.
• Fans can vote for Nick Bellore (special teams), Antonio Brown (wide receiver), and Joe Staley (offensive line) for the 2013 Pro Bowl at www.nfl.com/probowl/ballot.
