Jesse Johnson is in his first year as a defensive graduate assistant at Central Michigan, working primarily with the defensive line and also assisting with special teams.
Johnson came to CMU following a stint as a defensive graduate assistant at The Citadel. He gained additional coaching experience working senior prospect camps at Michigan State (2011-13) and Central Michigan (2011) during the summer, teaching technique to defensive backs.
Johnson played at Michigan State, enrolling in East Lansing as a preferred walk-on in 2006 before earning a full scholarship in the fall of 2008. He saw action in 50 of 52 games in his collegiate career and was named team captain in the Spartans’ Big Ten Championship season of 2010.
A native of Durand, Mich., Johnson has a standout career at Durand H.S., departing as the school’s all-time record holder in tackles and interceptions.
A 2011 graduate of Michigan State, he earned a bachelor’s degree in social science with a preference in history.
