Coates and McIntyre Named to Preseason All-MAC West Squad

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Senior libero Jenna Coates and junior outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre were named to the preseason All-Mid-American Conference West team Thursday afternoon, the league office announced.

Coates and McIntyre were both named to the All-MAC First Team after tremendous 2012 campaigns. The preseason All-MAC West Team also included Sarah Angelos and MacKenzie Roddy of Northern Illinois as well as Lena Oliver and Stephenee Yancy of Western Michigan.

McIntyre enters 2013 with 805 kills in her short two-year career after leading the Chippewas each of her first two seasons. After setting a program freshman record with 409 total kills in 2011, she led the squad with 395 last season to earn All-MAC First Team honors.

Coates also earned All-MAC First Team honors last season after being named the MAC West Defensive Player of the Week on four separate occasions. She ranked 61st in the country with 4.94 digs per set and twice posted 30 plus digs in a match. The Clarkston, Mich., native enters her senior season with 1,335 career digs, ranking third in program history.

The Chippewas open their 2013 campaign tomorrow evening at the Golden Grizzly Invite versus the host Golden Grizzlies. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
