MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Sophomore Kyle Stacks and senior Jason Drudge led the way for Central Michigan with top-35 men’s 8k finishes, and junior Krista Parks finished top-40 in the women’s 6k at the Roy Griak Invitational at the hilly Les Bolstad Golf Course in Minneapolis, Minn., Saturday afternoon.

The men’s team finished ninth of 15 with a score of 214 in the team’s first scored meet of the season, and the women’s team finished 11th of 19 with 283 points.

Stacks finished the race 29th in 25:31.9, followed closely by Drudge, who crossed 32nd in 25:36.2. Stacks was running in 13th place at the 3k mark, but couldn’t hold the pace for the remainder of the race, while Drudge steadily worked his way up from 83rd at the 1k mark.

Sophomore Ethan Lievense finished 42nd in 25:51.9, senior Matt Lutzke crossed the line in 26:06.4 for a 55th place finish, and sophomore Ben Wynsma recorded a 64th place finish in 26:14.9 to round out the scoring lineup for the Chippewas.

Parks led the way with a 37th-place finish in 22:20.2. She powered through field as the race went on, moving up from 89th after the first kilometer of the race.

The remainder of the scoring lineup for the Chippewas all finished within 18 seconds of one another, led by junior Shelby Thren in 23:17.9 in 86th. Redshirt freshman Alyssa Dyer crossed 96th in 23:30.0, followed by senior Maddie Ribant in 98th in 23:32.7 and freshman Bailey Parmelee in 101st in 23:35.3.

Kelly Wiebe of Regina won the men’s race in 24:18.8, and host Minnesota claimed the men’s team title with a score of 67.

Besty Saina of Iowa State claimed the women’s race in 20:50.5, and led her team to a title with 43 points.

The Chippewas will next compete at the Pre-National Meet in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, Oct. 13. Louisville will also host the National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17.
