A outstanding running back in the early 1950s, Chuck was a successful football coach following graduation... a star member of CMU's undefeated freshman football team in 1950 and was a regular on offense and defense in 1951, once scoring on a 90-yard run... earned first-team All-Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors on both offense and defense in 1952 and 1953, helping the Chippewas to the championship in the latter season... his team was 19-6-1 in his three seasons on varsity... led CMU in rushing in 1953 with 938 yards in nine games... ran on the track team for two seasons... served as athletics director at Vandercook Lake High School in Jackson for 40 years... was also a football coach for 20 years, guiding his teams to a record of 128-45 and posting four undefeated seasons... his prep teams won eight conference titles in football, two in baseball and one in track.
