A two-time Mid-American Conference cross country champion who was also a standout in track... considered one of the top long distance men in Chippewa history... led CMU to the MAC championship in 1982 with a first-place finish in cross country and then won the MAC crown again in 1983, breaking his own record from the previous year... was the MAC's lone NCAA qualifier both years, earning All-America honors in 1984... placed in the MAC outdoor track championships from 1981-83... earned All-America honors in the 1984 national cross country meet after college and represented the USA in a 1985 meet with Russia and Japan, finishing in second place... CMU continues to recognize him by hosting the Jeff Drenth Memorial each fall... was running professionally for Athletics West in Eugene, Ore., when he passed away in 1986.
