Nicknamed "Sugar," Melvin ranks as the No. 1 scorer in Chippewa annals with 2,071 points... named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year in 1982... twice earned first-team All-MAC honors... broke the 40-point barrier four times, including a personal-best 46 points versus Bowling Green... his career average of 20.3 points per game ranks third in CMU history... was a long-range marksman who played before the three-point shot... had a career free throw percentage of .775... was the program's leader in steals (196) and ranked sixth in assists (288) at the end of his career... owns three of the top nine single-season scoring averaged in CMU history, including a 24.1 points per game mark in 1982-83.
