Menís Basketball Opens Practice for 2013-14 Season
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – With its first scheduled contest just over one month away, the Central Michigan men’s basketball team began preparations for the 2013-14 season on Friday with its first official practice.

While Friday marks the open of practice, the Chippewas have been busy over the summer laying the groundwork for the upcoming season. Thanks to an NCAA rule instituted last summer, CMU was able to participate in two hours of practice for six weeks. The Chippewas spent the last week in June and all of July honing their game individually and as a team.

CMU basketball fans will have ample opportunity to pack McGuirk Arena and enjoy the young Chippewas’ exciting up-tempo style of play early on in the year, as six regular season home games are on the schedule before the month of December. The 2013-14 Chippewas will officially debut on Monday, Oct. 28 when they host Lake Superior State in an exhibition contest.

Davis returns a core of young and talented players for the 2013-14 campaign, including sophomore guard Chris Fowler, who broke the program’s freshman assist record and earned All-MAC Freshman Team honors last season. Also back are sophomore forwards Blake Hibbits, who averaged 8.9 points per game and led CMU with 66 three-pointers, and John Simons, who topped the Chippewas in rebounds with 151. Bolstering the roster are five newcomers who are scholarship players, including seven-foot center Milos Cabarkapa, guard/forward Nick Carlos and guards Josh Kozinski, Braylon Rayson and Rayshawn Simmons.
