Ghena Leads Men's XC to Third-Place Finish at MAC Championships

Sophomore Nate Ghena, and redshirt freshman Spencer Nousain earned All-Mid-American Conference first-team honors as the men’s cross country team finished third at the MAC Championships Saturday.

Ghena finished fourth earning All-MAC honors for the first time in his career in the men’s 8k race in 25:10.7, to lead the Chippewas to a third-place finish with 104 team points.

"They did everything they needed to solidify a top-three finish," associate head coach Matt Kaczor said. "I thought the guys did a nice job of battling, fighting and digging in there to get that third place."

Eastern Michigan took the team title with 42 points.

Nousain also earned All-MAC honors for the first time in his career with a seventh-place finish in 25:14.34 for first-team honors.

"Nate and Spencer had a phenomenal race being first team all-conference with fourth and seventh place finishes," Kaczor said.

Junior Ethan Lievense finished 17th overall in 25:45.06 while freshman Sean Kelly (33rd) and sophomore Scott Monte (43rd) finished 26:06.78 and 26:21.58 respectively to round out the scoring line-up for CMU.

Redshirt freshman Casey Voisin finished 53rd in 26:40.4 and junior Tanner Pesonen was 54th in 26:41.89.

The Chippewas continue their season with the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 15, at Madison, Wisc. where they will try to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
