TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Central Michigan men's and women's cross country team raced against top-competition Saturday at the Pre-Nationals meet at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
Both the men's and women's squad came into the race ranked 12th in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Poll.
Sophomore Nate Ghena was the top men's finisher, completing the 8k race in 25:05.93.
Junior Ethan Lievense finished right behind Ghena in 25:06.16. Freshman Spencer Nousain rounded out CMU's top-three men's performers crossing the finish line in 25:20.35.
"Our one through three wasn't as far up as we needed to be associate head coach, Matt Kaczor said on the men's team. "We just didn't have a fifth to help us out today."
On the women's side senior Krista Parks was the top-finisher completing the blue division 6k race in 21:42.04.
Kelly Schubert and Breanne Lesnar were among the top-three women's finishers on the day. The sophomore-duo finished in 21:48.73 and 21:49.40 respectively.
Kaczor was pleased with the effort on the women's side. "The women had a good race today," Kaczor said. "One through five gap was about thirty seconds so that was good."
The men's team ended the day placing 48th with the women placing 33rd.
University of Colorado men's squad finished first with 90 points, while Georgetown University finished on top of the women's side with 117 points.
The Chippewas are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they head to Bowling Green, Ohio to compete at the MAC Championships.
