Davis Selected to Biletnikoff Preseason Award Watch List
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan junior Titus Davis has been named to the 2013 Biletnikoff Preseason Award Watch List, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., the creator and sponsor of the award, announced on Tuesday. The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the nation’s outstanding receiver in college football.

Davis will provide CMU with one of the top offensive weapons in the MAC and in the nation in 2013. A year ago, the Second Team All-MAC selection topped CMU with 860 yards, eight receiving touchdowns, and a 71.7 receiving yards per game average despite missing time due to injury. His eight scores equaled his total from 2011 and rank tied for sixth on the CMU single season charts while his yardage total placed him just outside the top 10 in the Chippewas’ record book. Davis’ 20.0 yards per reception average led the conference and ranked No. 1 in the nation among receivers with more than 40 catches.

Davis had several standout individual performances in 2012. Versus rival Western Michigan, he etched his named into the CMU record book, totaling 208 yards receiving. Davis’ total was the third most ever by a Chippewa receiver in a single game. His 10 receptions also tied a career high. In the upset road win over Iowa, Davis caught two touchdown passes, including a 13-yarder with 45 seconds remaining, setting the stage for CMU’s last-second heroics. Against Northern Illinois, Davis took a short slant route the distance, outracing the defense for a career-long 92-yard touchdown.

With 16 receiving touchdowns in just 24 career games, Davis ranks tied for sixth in the CMU record book. He has recorded two touchdowns in a game six times in his two seasons as a Chippewa.

Davis is the second Chippewa to be included on an award watch list this summer, as senior running back Zurlon Tipton received preseason recognition from the Maxwell Award earlier in July.

The Biletnikoff Award recipient is chosen by a national selection committee, a group of over 200 prominent college football journalists, commentators and former receivers. The 2013 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on December 12, 2013 on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show, to be broadcast from 7-9 p.m. on ESPN.

CMU opens the 2013 season on the road against Michigan on Saturday, Aug. 31. The game will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network.
