MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Junior goalkeeper Grace Labrecque has been recognized for her outstanding defensive efforts in net, being named Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete and Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Labrecque stopped four shots in Central Michigan’s 1-0 shutout against Toledo on Friday and delivered another shutout on Sunday against Northern Illinois in a 3-0 effort, improving the Chippewas MAC record to 4-2-0.
This weekend marked Labrecque’s first career back-to-back shutout games. The last goalkeeper to record consecutive shutouts for CMU was Stephanie Turner, who started in four consecutive shutouts, playing 90 minutes in three of the games to conclude the 2012 regular season.
Labrecque has tallied three shutouts on the year and now ranks fifth all-time in program history with seven career shutouts, passing Beth Quiney (1998-2001) after the win on Friday against Toledo.
Labrecque and the Chippewas will travel to Akron on Friday at 7 p.m. and Buffalo on Sunday at 12 p.m.
