MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Junior Mary Alice Moore recorded her first career hat trick and the Central Michigan defense held Saint Louis without a goal for 70 minutes Sunday afternoon en route to a 6-1 victory at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
Moore put the Chippewas (2-0) in front just 7:16 into the contest and added a pair of second-half goals to bring her season and weekend total to four. Seniors Bailey McKeon and Abby Roth each scored their first goals of the season, as did freshman Lauren Jacobsen.
Sophomore Anne Middeldorp, senior Julianna Makrinos, junior Jordyn Brengosz, junior Cayleigh Immelman, freshman Maude Stalars and junior Maureen Riley each had an assist in the contest. Sophomore Kaysie Gregory added a pair of assists, bringing her point total for the opening weekend to five (one goal, three assists).
The Chippewas led 2-0 at halftime before Moore scored goals at the 36:50 mark and 49:37 mark of the second half to push the lead to 4-0. The junior was replaced by Jacobsen following her completion of the hat trick and Jacobsen scored just 38 seconds later to push the CMU ahead 5-0.
Roth capped the scoring by corralling a rebound in front of the cage and burying a shot in the back of the net at the 53:26 mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sadie Reynolds needed to make just one save over the first 55:01 of the contest to keep her sheet clean through the opening weekend of the season. True freshman Sara Nicholas made her collegiate debut over the finale 14:59 looking to secure a second-straight shutout for the Chippewas, but a goal off a corner in extra time by Faith Macklin put the Billikens (0-2) on the board for the first time this season.
The Chippewas will begin a trip of seven-straight contests away from home next weekend at Delaware on Friday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m., before a neutral site contest at Drexel University versus Lafayette on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.
