MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — The Central Michigan football program has announced the addition of former Michigan State defensive end Jeremy Gainer to its roster for the 2013 season.
A two-year letterwinner, Gainer finished his MSU career with 13 tackles in 28 career games. In 2011, the Detroit native appeared in all 14 games, recording 11 tackles and two fumbles. Gainer made the switch to defensive end prior to the 2012 season, seeing action in all 13 games.
The Livonia, MIch., native came to MSU as the No. 15-ranked outside linebacker in the nation according to Rivals.com. Gainer was also listed among the Michigan's top seniors by the Detroit Free Press (No. 8), Rivals.com (No. 10), Lansing State Journal (No. 13) and The Detroit News (No. 14)
Gainer graduated from Michigan State with a degree in hospitality business and will have one year of eligibility remaining. He was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree for the Spartans.
Gainer will compete with returnees Alex Smith, Kenny McClendon, Blake Serpa, Matt Russo, Lance Sanders, Louis Palmer and Ben Randle for playing time at defensive end.
CMU opens the 2013 season on the road against Michigan on Saturday, Aug. 31.
