Play Ball
After each of their last three midweek games have been postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather. Central Michigan will look to get in a pair of games Tuesday and Wednesday versus in-state foes Michigan State and Michigan. Tuesday’s contest at McLane Stadium will be the first of three games between the Chippewas and Spartans this season while Wednesday’s game at Michigan will be CMU’s lone matchup versus the Wolverines in 2013.

CMU vs. Michigan State
The Chippewas are 62-51 all time versus the Spartans dating back to their first meeting in 1911. The Spartans swept the three-game season series over CMU last season, including a 5-2 win in the second annual Clash at Comerica. The two teams will square off again this season in the third Clash at Comerica on April 17 and again in Mount Pleasant on May 14.

CMU vs. Michigan
CMU dropped its lone meeting versus Michigan last season and is 30-38-2 dating back to its first meeting versus the Maize and Blue in 1956. Last season, a five run first inning by Michigan was too much to overcome as the Wolverines came away with a 7-3 victory at Fisher Stadium.

The Arms
A pair of freshmen will take the mound for the Chippewas Tuesday and Wednesday in right-hander Taylor Lehnert and left-hander Jimmy McNamara. Lehnert won his only start of the season at Bethune Cookman March 6, while despite his 0-1 record, McNamara has posted a strong 2.95 ERA with 14 strikeouts in six appearances out of the bullpen.

Extra Bases
Freshman Zack Fields had a pair of home runs Saturday versus Bowling Green, moving him into a tie for the team lead with three on the season. The 38th round draft pick by the Texas Rangers last season, Fields is tied with sophomore Nick Regnier for the team lead in RBI with 19 and leads all players with eight doubles and 11 extra-base hits.

The Closer
Sophomore Matt Trowbridge continues to shine in his new role as the team’s closer after pitching the final 3.2 innings of Saturday’s win over Bowling Green to earn his first win of the season. Trowbridge has struck out 33 batters in 21.1 innings this season while posting five saves and a 3.38 ERA.
