MOUNT PLEASANT - No. 6 Central Michigan extended its winning streak to six duals with a 29-6 victory over Northern Illinois in a Mid-American Conference dual at Rose Center on Sunday.

The Chippewas improved to 14-2 overall, 2-0 in the MAC with the victory. It was their 59th win in their last 61 conference duals. NIU fell to 9-8 overall, 1-3 in the MAC.

"We were very competitive in all 10 of the matches," said CMU head coach Tom Borrelli. "We lost two matches, but we were wrestling with freshmen in both of those matches, and we lost a one-point match and we lost to a returning conference champion. For us to win the MAC Tournament, we have to have contributions from all 10 weight classes, and we feel like we're getting that."

Sunday's dual began at 141 pounds, where Conor Beebe earned a 5-3 decision over NIU's Pat McLemore. The match was tied 3-3 after one period, but Beebe scored a decisive reversal after beginning the second period in the bottom position.

No. 14 Tony D'Alie extended CMU's lead to 6-0 with a 3-2 decision at 149 pounds. A third-period takedown was the difference in the victory.

Northern Illinois' first victory of the day came at 157 pounds, where Bryan Deutsch posted a 6-3 decision over Donnie Corby. Deutsch led 2-1 after the first period, and he extended his lead to 4-1 with two back points after beginning the second period in the top position. Deutsch and Corby traded reversals in the final 10 seconds of the match for the final 6-3 margin.

Eric Cubberly and No. 10 Ben Bennett followed with victories for CMU at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively. Cubberly was a 5-3 winner over John Odeen, while Bennett earned bonus points with a 17-0 technical fall over Joe Clothier. Bennett scored 12 back points in the win.

NIU won at 184 pounds when Zach Benzio defeated Dillon Kern, 9-8. Benzio scored a reversal in the third period for the decisive points.

The Chippewas won each of the final four bouts, beginning with Eric Simaz's 7-2 decision over Scott Penny at 197 pounds. Jarod Trice (heavyweight) and Matt Steintrager (125) followed with decisions as well, and Scotti Sentes (133) capped the win with a first-period pin of NIU's Zach Taylor.

The Chippewas continue MAC competition next Sunday with a road trip to Buffalo.
