MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Head Coach Cristy Freese and the Central Michigan field hockey program has announced seniors Skylar VanNatta, Ellen Riley and Simone Lazar as the team captains for the 2013 season.
Lazar is a two-time All-Mid-American Conference First Team selection and was named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Second-Team All-West Region last season. She has also been named to the MAC All-Tournament Team twice in her career.
VanNatta is coming off a breakout junior campaign in which she was named to the All-MAC First Team after starting all 18 contests in the midfield. She has made 52 career starts and has been a key player on a defense that posted two shutouts last season.
Riley will look to step into a new role in 2013 after appearing in 36 matches through her first three seasons. The Louisville, Ky., scored her first career goal last season in a 2-1 win over Pacific and has dished out three assists in her career as a important role player off the Chippewas’ bench.
The Chippewas will open the 2013 campaign this Friday at the CMU Field Hockey Complex versus Robert Morris. The match is set for 2 p.m.
