CMU Hoops Quick Hitters

  • The Chippewas are 6-0 in MAC play for just the third time in program history and first time since 1987-88.
  • A win over Kent State would...
...mark the first 7-0 MAC start since ’83-84
...match a seven-game win streak from last season
...give CMU a 7-1 record in the month of January
...match the fifth longest winning streak in program history
...even Coach Guevara’s CMU record at 89-89.
  • CMU has yet to allow a team to score 70-plus points during conference play, while scoring at least 72 in each of its six games.
  • Crystal Bradford’s 31 points versus Akron are the most scored by any player in the MAC this season.
  • Jessica Schroll has scored in double figures in eight of her 11 games at Central Michigan.
  • Brandie Baker moved into a tie for 13th place in scoring Saturday and now has 1,128 career points.

CMU 6-0 For First Time in 25 Years
Central Michigan is off to its first 6-0 start in Mid-American Conference play since 1988. CMU has started 6-0 just three times in program history and 7-0 just once in program history when it went a perfect 18-0 during the 1983-84 campaign.

Getting Defensive
CMU saw its streak of consecutive opponents held below 60 points snapped Saturday versus Akron, but limited the Zips to six points under their season average. Limiting teams below 70 points has been the key for CMU as they are 11-0 this season when doing so and 57-16 overall under Guevara.

High-Octane Offense
The Chippewas rank 15th in the country in scoring average at 75.3 points per game, but lead all teams in conference play with 79 points per game. CMU is nearly unstoppable when they eclipse the 80-point mark however, posting a perfect 5-0 record this season and a 22-3 mark the last two plus years.

Setting the Bar High
Sophomore Crystal Bradford scored a career-high 31 points versus Akron, setting a new high for points scored by a MAC player this season. Her 13 field goals tied the sixth best mark in CMU single-game history and increased her scoring average in MAC play to 20.2 points per game.

Not to Be Out Done
Bradford was not the only player to set a new career high Saturday, as senior Jessica Schroll notched 16 points while playing all 40 minutes. Schroll has scored in double figures in eight of her 11 games in the Maroon and Gold and currently ranks 16th in conference play in scoring (11.7 ppg).

Hot From The Start
The Chippewas matched a season high for points scored in half Saturday versus Akron, pouring in 51 in the first 20 minutes. CMU also scored 51 points in the second half of its 98-84 win over Saint Joseph’s at the Gator Holiday Classic on Dec. 20.

Inside the Winning Streak
During CMU’s six-game winning streak to start conference play, the Chippewas are...
...winning by an average of 21.0 points per game.
...outrebounding their opponents by 6.3 rebounds per game.
...shooting a MAC best 47.2 percent overall and 39.4 percent from behind the arc.
...blocking a league-best 4.8 shots per game.
...averaging 79.0 points per contest.

Streak Snapped
Bradford’s streak of consecutive MAC West Player of the Week awards was stopped at three when Ball State’s Brandy Wood earned the award Monday. Bradford was just the second player in conference history to earn the award in three straight weeks and is one award shy of tying the single-season record.
