ATHENS, Ohio - Central Michigan won six matches and used two major decisions in its opening Mid-American Conference dual of the 2012-13 season to defeat Ohio Saturday night, 23-12.
Junior Joe Roth (125) and sophomore Tyler Keselring (133) each claimed majors at as the No. 12 Chippewas (3-2, 1-0 MAC) won the first five matches of the night.
Roth used five takedowns and accumulated 2:29 of riding time in his 12-3 major decision over Kevon Powell, while four takedowns and 2:23 of riding time allowed Keselring to defeat Thomas McLaughlin, 10-2.
The two majors followed senior No. 4 Jarod Trice's 3-1 decision over Jeremy Johnson as the match opened at the heavyweight division. Trice recorded a first period takedown and quickly escaped after choosing to start the third period down.
Junior Scott Mattingly and senior Donnie Corby won back-to-back 5-3 decisions at 141 and 149 pounds to close out the hot start by the Chippewas and give them a 17-0 advantage.
After dropping three straight, two of which came in the first sudden victory period, in which the Bobcats pulled within 17-9, junior No. 5 184-pounder Ben Bennett secured the dual with a pin of Ryan Garringer at the 6:01 mark of his match.
