MOUNT PLEASANT - Former Central Michigan pitcher and current Philadelphia Phillies farmhand Zach Cooper was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team Thursday, the league office announced.
The Academic All-MAC selection is the first of Cooper's career as the senior posted a 3.46 grade point average as a Sports Studies major.
Cooper (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) finished the 2012 campaign with a 7-5 record and 2.82 earned run average with 98 strikeouts in 108.1 innings pitched. He finished his career with the Maroon and Gold ranked third in strikeouts (27), sixth in decisions (35; 22-13), seventh in innings pitched (281.1) and 10th in wins (22).
Since being selected in the 15th round by the Phillies, Cooper has posted a 1-1 record with a 1.45 ERA and three saves in 10 appearances between the Williamport Crosscutters and Lakewood BlueClaws. Cooper was recently promoted to the Single-A BlueClaws after going 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in six games with the CrossCutters.
