Chippewas' Season Ends at NCAA Regional with a 194.150

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Central Michigan gymnastics program wrapped up its 2012 campaign Saturday night, finishing sixth at the NCAA Regional at the University of Washington with a score of 194.150.

No. 4 Alabama and No. 9 LSU finished in the top two spots to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Duluth, Ga., April 20-22 with scores of 197.025 and 196.075, while No. 23 Washington finished third with a 195.825, No. 16 Arizona fourth with a 195.150 and Iowa fifth with a 194.600.

The Chippewas close the season with a 20-11 record overall, finishing with 20-plus wins for the third-straight year and the eighth time in program history, and advancing to their fourth consecutive NCAA postseason event.

Freshman Halle Moraw had a very strong showing in her first NCAA postseason appearance, scoring a career-high 39.100 to finish seventh overall in the all-around competition.

CMU's most impressive performance of the evening came in the third rotation when it tied a season-high on the uneven bars with a 49.025. Sophomore Brittany Petzold finished tied for fourth  in the event with a 9.850, while senior Kristin Teubner and Moraw both placed 10th with a 9.825. Junior Emily LaFontaine gave Central its fourth 9.8 of the event, finishing tied for 18th.

The Chippewas closed the night on the balance beam, getting a team-high 9.800 and 11th-place finish from freshman Taylor Noonan. Moraw scored a 9.775 to finish 16th in the event.

CMU started the evening on floor and struggled, scoring their third-lowest score of the season with a 48.150. Moraw led the way with a 9.775 to finish 14th.

Teubner helped the Chippewas bounce back in the second rotation, leading the way on the vault with a 9.850 for a fifth-place finish. Junior Meaghan McWhorter scored a 9.750 and Moraw tallied a 9.725 as the Chippewas scored a 48.650 in the event.

Petzold, the all-around champion at the MAC Championships on March 24, and Teubner finished tied for 12th in the all-around, scoring 38.825 respectively.

The meet concludes the career of Teubner, who during her time at CMU was named MAC Freshman of the Year in 2009, Co-Gymnast of the Year in 2011 and Senior of the Year this season.
