Awareness efforts for the Strike Out Cancer game were featured on CMU's field, as the bases and base lines were painted pink. The players and staff also wore a special pink uniform top for the day in the field.
CMU raised over $550 during the day, selling CMU Athletics Chips for a Cure t-shirts, pink ribbons and auctioning off three autographed t-shirts that each went for $30. Softball bingo cards were also sold at the game to fans for one dollar, while winners earned a coupon for a free smoothie. CMU's grand total donation from its efforts on Strike Out Cancer Day was $1,228 after members of the softball team helped collection donations from families, friends and parents.
After raising more than $2,300 during CMU volleyball, soccer, field hockey, women's basketball and gymnastics events, "Chips for a Cure" raised over $3,500 during the 2010-11 athletic seasons.
