CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- The magic finally ran out on the Central Michigan baseball team's run through the 2010 campaign, as No. 2 seed Kent State upended the No. 1 seed in the Mid-American Conference tournament championship game, 5-3, at VA Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The Chippewas (36-22) couldn't get anything going against the Golden Flashes' (39-23) starting pitcher Kyle Hallock until KSU had built a 5-0 lead.

Kent State plated two in the third on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Gallas and an RBI single by Jimmy Rider and added a run in the fourth on an RBI groundout.

The Chippewas had two runners on in the fourth, fifth and sixth but failed to score. With two aboard, Scott Phillion just missed tying the game with one swing when his deep fly ball was hauled in at the wall in left.

KSU added a run in the seventh on Travis Shaw's RBI single to make it 4-0. A Kyle McMillen single the opposite way made it 5-0 later in the frame.

RBI singles by Dale Cornstubble and Scott Phillion followed by an RBI groundout by Jordan Dean made it 5-3 after eight, but CMU would strand the tying runs on base.

The first two runners would reach in the ninth, but a line shot off the bat of James Teas was snared and turned into a double play to douse the threat.

Jesse Hernandez (8-3) took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk over 3 2/3 innings, starting on just two days rest. Mike Nixon and Dietrich Enns followed him in relief.

Hallock (8-5) picked up his second win of championship day, tossing seven-plus innings. He gave up two runs on five hits and four walks while fanning six.

Bryce Morrow, Phillion and Teas were named to the MAC's All-Tournament team.

The loss ends the season for the Chippewas, who became just the 10th No. 1 seed in MAC Tournament history to advance into the championship round. It also closes the careers of Billy Anderson, Ricky Clark, Dale Cornstubble, Tyler Kipke, Teas and Hernandez.

The 36 wins in 2010 are the most under head coach Steve Jaksa since 2005, when the Chippewas finished 42-18. The three MAC All-Tournament selections are the first since Central Michigan's last appearance in the championship game in 2005. Brendan Emmett also set a MAC Tournament record with 10 walks.
