MOUNT PLEASANT -- Trey Zeigler has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Central Michigan University, under his father, head coach Ernie Zeigler.
"Trey is a very versatile and skilled player," Ernie Zeigler said. "He is a very good passer and he has the ability to make plays for other and for himself. He can attack the basket and create shots. He is an excellent rebounder and he brings an athleticism to our program that was a focus for our entire recruiting class."
Trey joins a 2009-10 CMU recruiting class that was already ranked at the top of the Mid-American Conference according to several outlets, and is the highest-ranked recruit to join the league this season.
"By adding Trey to this class, it gives the sense across the country that something good is happening at Central Michigan," Ernie Zeigler said. "These five freshmen all come from situations where they have sacrificed to create winning programs. That gives this class the chance to matriculate into something special."
Trey had several other offers around the country, including Michigan, Michigan State, Arizona State and UCLA, but instead elected to stay close to home, play for his father and help the Chippewas continue to build on back-to-back MAC West Division titles.
"Timing is everything," Ernie Zeigler said. "With the events center and the possibility of what this class could mean to our program and the foundation our returners have laid, we are headed for something special."
The Chippewas (15-15, 9-7 MAC) won their second-consecutive West Division title in 2009-10, advancing to the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament for the fourth-consecutive season under Ernie Zeigler. The Maroon and Gold posted their first non-losing season and the first winning MAC record since the 2003 championship season in 2009-10. CMU is 54-69 during Zeigler's tenure.
