Senior Salute
CMU’s senior class will go into the record books as one of the most successful senior classes in school and Mid-American Conference history:
• The senior class has accounted for 28 victories against MAC opponents, tied for the second most of any senior class in conference history.
• CMU’s 35 victories over the past four seasons are the most of any MAC program.
• First CMU senior class since 1980 to win at least eight games in four straight seasons.
• Perfect 4-0 record against rival Western Michigan, first CMU senior class since 1987 to sweep the Broncos.
• Only senior class at any current MAC program to play in four straight bowl games.
Kelly/Shorts Kind to CMU
A victory today would cap the first unbeaten season at home for CMU since 1998. CMU has won its first four home games by an average score of 52.0-14.2 and is out-gaining its opponents by an average margin of 467.5-235.0 at home. The Chippewas have scored at least 48 points in each of their four home games and have posted at least 500 yards of offense three times.
• CMU also tied a school record with five road victories in 2009. Prior to this season, CMU had not won five road games in a season since 1979.
Football Alumni Club Honors Dan Bookey
• The Football Alumni Club has selected the late Dan Bookey as the honorary game captain for Friday’s game. Bookey, who served as CMU’s equipment coordinator for 30 years before retiring in 2004, died in August at the age of 69. The Chippewas have been honoring the memory of Bookey throughout the 2009 season by wearing a helmet decal that reads “Book.”
• The Daniel Lee Bookey and Family Scholarship Endowment Fund is an award made on an annual basis to CMU student equipment managers in their junior year or higher who best epitomize the character traits of Dan Bookey: selflessness, dedication, integrity and love of the game.
LeFevour Named MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week
Dan LeFevour earned the conference’s weekly award for the second straight week after accounting for 403 total yards and five touchdowns in the win at Ball State. LeFevour completed 25-of-28 passes for 344 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 59 yards and a score.
CMU Earns Votes in National Polls
CMU received the 31st-most points (27 total points) in this week’s USA Today coaches poll. The Chippewas earned one point in the Associated Press poll. CMU has earned votes in at least one of the major national polls each of the last eight weeks.
CMU Wins Cartwright Award for Program Excellence
Central Michigan University won the MAC’s inaugural Cartwright Award, given to the program that most comprehensively exemplifies success academically, athletically and in the community. The Chippewas were named the league’s top overall program for the 2008-09 season.
Winning Season Streak Reaches Five
• CMU will finish with a winning record for the fifth straight season in 2009, the longest current streak in the Mid-American Conference. The 1987-91 seasons marked the last time CMU finished above .500 in five straight seasons.
• The 2009 season marks the fourth straight year that the Chippewas have won at least eight games. The 1977-80 seasons marked the last four-year run of at least eight victories.
CMU Among Nation’s Best in the Red Zone
• The Chippewa offense has scored points on 45 of its 49 trips into the red zone (91.8 percent). The four trips CMU did not score: the Chippewas twice took a knee late in a game, missed a field goal once and were stopped on downs once after a 90-yard drive.
• CMU’s defense has allowed points on just 27 of its opponents’ 38 trips inside the red zone (71.1 percent).
• CMU ranks tied for fourth nationally in red zone defense and tied for 11th in red zone offense.
143 Career Touchdowns and Counting
Dan LeFevour leads all active players in the Bowl Subdivision with 143 career touchdowns. He has passed for 96 touchdowns, rushed for 46 and caught a touchdown pass during his career. LeFevour enters the week eight touchdowns ahead of Tim Tebow (135 career touchdowns; 81 passing, 54 rushing). The Bowl Subdivision record for total touchdowns in a career is 146, shared by Graham Harrell (Texas Tech) and Colt Brennan (Hawaii).
Head Coach Butch Jones
Butch Jones Bullet Points
• Butch Jones is in his third season as the head coach at CMU.
• The Chippewas are 25-13 overall during Jones’ tenure, including 20-3 against MAC opponents.
• Jones is the only coach in CMU history to lead the Chippewas to back-to-back bowl games.
• Jones is just the fifth coach in MAC history to lead his team to bowl games in both of his first two seasons.
• Jones is one of just three current MAC head coaches to have won a MAC championship.
• Eight victories in 2007 were the second-most of any CMU head coach in his debut season.
• One of three first-year head coaches nationwide to lead his team to a bowl game in 2007.

• The Chippewas are 12-1 in MAC road games under Jones.
