Central Michigan Story Lines

A CMU Win Over Toledo Would …
… make the Chippewas 6-0 in the MAC for the second straight season and fifth time in program history.
… improve the Chippewas’ record against MAC opponents to 19-3 under Butch Jones.
… be CMU’s fifth straight win over the Rockets and mark its longest winning streak in the series.
… mark the first time since 1977-80 that CMU won at least eight games in four straight seasons.

CMU Earns Votes in Both Major Polls
CMU received the 34th-most points (seven total points) in this week’s USA Today coaches poll and the 33rd-most points (four total points) in the Associated Press poll. CMU has earned votes in the polls each of the last five weeks.

CMU vs. the State of Ohio
CMU has won 16 consecutive contests against MAC opponents from the state of Ohio. The last MAC member from Ohio to defeat the Chippewas was Toledo (27-22) on Oct. 23, 2004.

CMU on ESPN
• Since the start of the 2007 season, CMU is 12-5 in 17 appearances on the ESPN family of networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Regional).
• Former CMU linebacker Ray Bentley will serve as the analyst during Saturday’s telecast. Bentley ranks third on CMU’s career tackles list and was inducted into the CMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994. He has been part of the broadcast crew for six games involving CMU since 2007; the Chippewas are 3-3 in those contests.

Anderson Riding Receptions Streak
Bryan Anderson’s streak of 49 consecutive games played with a reception is the longest active streak in the country. He has caught at least one pass in every game he has played in his career. The record for any NCAA division for consecutive games with a reception is 51 shared by Taurean Henderson (Texas Tech) and Michael Larkin (Miami, Ohio).

Military Appreciation Night at Kelly/Shorts Stadium
Several special events are planned in conjunction with Wednesday’s game. Military members and veterans will be admitted to the game free with a military identification card. Family members of military members and veterans can purchase a reduced-rate ticket for $10. During the game, the video board at Kelly/Shorts Stadium will feature video greetings from troops from the state of Michigan currently stationed overseas. A United States Army swearing-in ceremony will take place at halftime in conjunction with a special patriotic presentation from the Marching Chippewas, and the game ball will be presented to officials by a team of skydivers that will parachute into the stadium just prior to kickoff.

O’Brien On-the-Road Campaign Visits CMU
Dan LeFevour recently was named one of 15 national semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien Award. Representatives from the O’Brien Award will be on campus Wednesday as part of a campaign to help promote the fan voting element of the O’Brien Award. Fans can visit the O’Brien Award tent located north of Kelly/Shorts Stadium prior to the game to cast their vote for LeFevour.

Starting Fast
CMU has out-scored its nine opponents by a total of 96 points (173-77) in the first half. The Chippewas have out-scored opponents by a combined 64-19 in the first quarter and 109-58 in the second quarter, and CMU has led games by an average score of 19.2-8.6 at halftime in 2009. CMU has held six of its last seven opponents scoreless in the first quarter.

Youthful Chippewas
• After having just 11 seniors on the roster in both the 2007 and 2008 seasons, CMU entered the 2009 campaign with just 13 seniors on its roster. Only eight teams in the Bowl Subdivision have fewer seniors than CMU. There are 53 true or redshirt freshmen on the Chippewas’ roster.
• Through eight games, 27 true or redshirt freshmen have seen game action for CMU.

Senior Class Leaves a Legacy
CMU’s senior class has accounted for 33 victories over the past four seasons. Ranking the winningest senior classes in school history:

Wins Seasons
38 1977-80
37 1974-77
36 1976-79
35 1978-81
34 1975-78, 1973-76

Winning Season Streak Reaches Four
• CMU has posted a winning record each of the last four seasons, the longest current streak in the Mid-American Conference. The 1987-91 seasons marked the last time CMU finished above .500 in five straight seasons. The most recent MAC program to finish with a winning record at least five straight seasons was Northern Illinois, which posted seven straight winning records from 2000-06.
• The 2008 season marked the third straight year that the Chippewas won at least eight games. CMU last won at least eight games in three straight seasons from 1978-80. The 1977-80 seasons marked the last four-year run of at least eight victories.
