MOUNT PLEASANT – Central Michigan University alumnus Ryan Schuiling
will be the football play-by-play voice on the CMU Sports Network this
season.
Schuiling is entering his first season calling CMU football games after
serving as the basketball play-by-play voice last season.
Schuiling will team with color analyst Stan Shingles, who is entering
his fourth season with the radio network in that role. Bryan Wieferich
also returns to the broadcast team as a pregame and halftime show
contributor as well as a spotter during the broadcast.
“Ryan will fill a very important role in our new organized CMU
Athletics broadcasting department,” said Nick Williams, associate
athletic director for sales and corporate relations. “This new
structure will offer new revenue opportunities for the athletics
department to capitalize on, as well help broaden the visibility and
reach of Chippewa athletics.”
Schuiling has spent the past eight years in a variety of broadcasting
and media relations positions. He hosted an afternoon sports talk show
and called play-by-play for the CBA’s Grand Rapids Hoops and various
high school sports while at WBBL-AM in Grand Rapids from 1997-2001. He
then spent two years in Richmond, Va., as the media relations director
and broadcaster for the Richmond Speed of arenafootball2.
Schuiling returned to CMU for graduate school from 2003-05 where he was
a graduate assistant in the broadcasting department. He worked in media
relations with the Grand Rapids Griffins minor league hockey team for
two years while also calling play-by-play for Grand Rapids Community
College football. He worked at JTV in Jackson for a year before heading
to Florida Atlantic University’s sports information department. He was
at FAU for a brief time before returning to Mount Pleasant.
