A versatile baseball performer who excelled both on the mound and at the plate, Tom set CMU's single-season (0.80, 1966) and career (1.53) ERA records... a four-year regular at shortstop, he pitched only in his final two seasons but was 11-2 and set records that stood for 30 years... three times he was named second-team All-Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and was a first-team pick in 1966 after batting .388 and going 6-0 from the mound... was team captain, MVP and IIAC MVP as a senior... named recipient of the coveted Robert Carlson Award as CMU's top student-athlete... drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1967 and was named Topps Minor League All-Rookie shortstop... also played in the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres organizations.
