MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan softball team will travel to Arlington, Texas for the UTA Maverick Invitational this weekend, playing five games over the span of three days.
This marks the first opportunity the Maroon and Gold have to compete outside, as last weekend’s tournament was held indoors.
“It will be exciting to play outside,” coach Margo Jonker said. “It’s different because the ground is very different than the turf. The sky is different than having a roof over top, so judging balls in the sky and on the ground is totally different. It will be another process for us and another challenge and I’m pretty excited to see how the team does in that setting.”
The competition includes South Dakota State (1-3), Missouri State (1-2) and UT Arlington (3-2).
The Chippewas enter the tournament with a 3-1 record.
“What we have been doing in practice is trying to work out some of the miscues that we had last weekend and correct them,” Jonker said. “There are things we need to tweak and get better at so that is what we have been working on in practice everyday.”
The Chippewas will begin the tournament with a pair of games Friday against South Dakota State at 6 p.m. and Missouri State at 8 p.m.
