Gymnastics Defeats Eastern Michigan in First Road Meet
YPSILANTI, Mich. – No. 19 Central Michigan gymnastics continued its dominating run to begin the season with a 195.925-194.600 victory over Eastern Michigan in CMU’s first road meet of the year.

The Chippewas improve to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference action. This is CMU’s best road score since 2010 when they tallied a 196.350 at Bowling Green. It is also the best road score by a MAC team this season.

Central Michigan continued its streak of having an individual finish first on every event this year, as CMU is 24-for-24. Halle Moraw captured the titles on vault (9.875) and floor (9.850), Karlee Teet and Becca Druien tied for first on bars (9.850) and Taylor Noonan (9.800) shared the beam title with EMU’s Anna Willette.

The Chippewas began the night on bars with Teet and Druien leading the way. Brittany Petzold finished third as CMU posted a 49.050 on the event to take a slight early lead as EMU had a 48.725 on vault.

Moraw made her season debut on vault a special one as she posted a career-best 9.875 to win the event. The Petzold sisters, Brittany and Kirsten, tied for second with a 9.850 as CMU tallied a 49.000 on the event to stretch its lead to 98.050-97.450 midway through the event.

CMU against captured the top three spots on floor with Moraw earning her second event title of the night with a 9.850. Tying for second were Preslee Harrald and Emily Heinz with 9.825 as CMU tallied its third 49-plus score of the night with a 49.050. That consistency along with EMU’s struggles on beam gave CMU a commanding leading heading into the final rotation, 147.100-145.875.

Noonan would take first on beam for the second-straight week with a 9.800. Taylor Bolender and Emily Heinz tied for third with a 9.775 as CMU finished the night with a 48.825 on the event.

The Chippewas are back in action on Sunday as they travel to Bowling Green to face the Falcons. The meet in Anderson Arena is set to begin at 2 p.m.
