Senior Krista Parks and sophomore Nate Ghena led the Chippewas Friday at the Spartan Invitational with a pair of top-10 finishes.
Ghena, Parks Continue Strong Starts at Spartan Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – A pair of runners on both the men’s and women’s side posted top-10 finishes for the Central Michigan cross country program at the Spartan Invitational Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Nate Ghena ran a career-best 24:58 in the 8k men’s race to finish fifth, while junior Ethan Lievense came across the finish line nine seconds later at 25:07 for a seventh place finish.  

Senior Krista Parks also continued her strong start to the 2013 campaign with an eighth place finish in the women’s 6k race, crossing the finish line with a time of 21:32. Sophomore Kelly Schubert bested her personal record by a whole minute to finish 10th at 21:47.

The Chippewas added a pair of runners in the top 20 on the women’s side as junior Abbey Kelto finished 18th at 22:14 and sophomore Alyssa Dyer finished 19th at 22:39. Freshman Esther Bell finished 24th in her first career 6k race with a time of 22:56.

The cross country program will return to competition on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
