CMU Receives Three First-Place Votes; Picked 3rd in Tough MAC West

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Mid-American Conference released its preseason coaches’ poll Wednesday afternoon, with the Central Michigan volleyball program picked to finish third in the tough MAC West.

The MAC West once again looks to be very competitive as each of the top three teams received multiple first-place votes. Northern Illinois was picked to win the west division with five first-place votes, while Western Michigan and the Chippewas received four and three first-place votes respectively.

CMU returns four starters, as well as libero Jenna Coates, and seven letterwinners from their squad that finished 9-7 in the MAC last season and 16-14 overall.  In addition to Coates, the Chippewas also return senior setter Kelly Maxwell, junior outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre, freshman middle blocker Angelique White and senior middle blocker Danielle Gotham.

Defending MAC Tournament champion Bowling Green was picked to win the east division and received four first-place votes along with Ohio as the favorite to win the MAC Tournament at the SPIRE Institute in November.

CMU opens the regular season this Friday at the Golden Grizzle Invite versus the host Golden Grizzlies at 7 p.m. The MAC season will begin for the Maroon and Gold with their first home match of the season on Sept. 27 versus Toledo.
