Tampa, Fla. - Central Michigan dropped a pair of games at South Florida, 2-1 and 4-1, on Tuesday night. Senior Summer Knoop continued her solid play at the plate, going 1-3 with an RBI in game one.
The Bulls (10-10) jumped on top of the Chippewas (7-6) early in game one, scoring one run in the bottom of the second inning. Kenshyra Jackson opened the inning with a solo homerun to go up 1-0.
Central Michigan responded in the third inning, scoring one run. Third baseman Trista Cox singled to centerfield to start the inning. Junior Lauren Bowman came in to pinch run, and was advance to third on a fielding error by the Bulls. Bowman was brought home by a Knoop single to right field, tying the game 1-1.
South Florida regained the lead in the bottom of the third. Courtney Goff singled to begin the inning, and advanced to third on a CMU error. Stephanie Medina laid down a sac-bunt to score Goff, putting the Bulls up 2-1.
In game one, Knoop led the Chippewas with one RBI and a hit. Senior Kara Dornbos pitched a complete game, giving up one earned run and striking out three batters.
Jackson finished the game 1-2 at the plate with a homerun for South Florida. Goff went 2-2 from the plate with a run. Lindsey Richardson started for the Bulls, pitching 4.2 innings and striking out eight batters. Sara Nevins came in as relief, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up no run.
In game two, Central Michigan scored first, putting up one run in the first inning. Junior Brittney Horan homered to centerfield, her first homerun of the season.
South Florida answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs, going up 3-1. D’Anna Devine singled to start, and was advanced to second on a sac-bunt by Ashli Goff. Medina singled to third base to advance Devine. With runners on the corners, Jackson hit her second homerun of the day to left center.
The Bulls scored once again in the fourth to extend their lead to 4-1 as Lee Ann Spivey hit a solo homerun to left field to start the inning.
Horan finished the game 2-3 with a homerun. Sophomore Chelsea DeLamielleure led the Chippewas, finishing the game with two hits. Junior Chelsea Sundberg started in the circle, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up four runs. Junior Kristen Kuhlman pitched 1.1 innings, striking out one batter and surrendering no runs.
Jackson led South Florida with three RBIs and a homerun in game two. Spivey finished 1-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run. Erica Nunn started for the Bulls and pitched 2.0 innings. Sam Greiner pitched 1.2 innings in relief, striking out one batter. Nevins pitched 3.1 innings to close the game, giving up two hits.
Central Michigan will play Wagner on Friday, March 8, at the USF Tournament.
