Netto Earns MAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT - Senior goalkeeper Anastasia Netto has earned Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Thursday morning.

Netto’s performance in goal was crucial in shutting out No. 22 Maine Saturday and holding No. 11 Stanford scoreless in the first half on Monday as part of a 2-1 weekend.

The senior made three saves for her third career shutout in the Chippewas 1-0 win over Maine, the first for the program against a ranked opponent since a 2007 win over No. 5 Michigan State.

Netto was also outstanding in goal against No. 11 Stanford, keeping a clean slate in the first half and making eight saves to keep the Chippewas in the match. The Chippewas took a 1-0 halftime lead, but ultimately fell to the Cardinal, 2-1.

Netto's award is the second consecutive week a CMU player has earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, following defender Emily Girasole last week.

The Chippewas have a weekend off before competing in the MSU Tournament in East Lansing, Mich., next weekend.
