DES MOINES, Iowa - Freshman Milica Kulidzan finished 23rd in the women's javelin with a mark of 140-08 at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday.
Kulidzan, one of just six freshmen competing in the 24 student-athlete field at Drake University, opened competition with a mark of 129-07. Her second throw traveled 117-05.
She turned things around with her final throw, recording her best mark of 140-08.
Wednesday's competition caps a remarkable opening season for the freshman from Windsor, Ontario. Not only was she the only NCAA Nationals qualifier for the women's team, she broke the javelin school record twice along the way and earned second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors.
Senior Ryan McCullough, the second Chippewa to qualify for the NCAA Nationals, will compete in the men's hammer throw at 3 p.m. EST Friday.
