Margo Jonker Stadium was dedicated to the Chippewas’ long-tenured head coach during the 2008 season. It has permanent chair-back seating behind home plate and a new backstop that was added in 2009. The stadium features seating for 1,000 fans, the Fran Koenig Press Box, a concessions concourse, an umpires’ room, a team meeting room and restroom facilities. This year the team also will have its own permanent locker room.
The surface of the Margo Jonker Stadium, which is called Hilltopper Stabilizer, is a synthetic dirt that is made of crushed lava/scoria rock. The Hilltopper surface is similar to a clay surface that allows for a more true bounce and will prevent as many injuries as compared to the old surface. In addition to a better quality surface, Hilltopper Stabilizer allows for earlier play following the winter months and spring rains. Instead of the ground soaking up the rain, the water beads on top of the synthetic dirt.
The Indoor Athletic Complex houses the turf bay, Dick Enberg Academic Center, team meeting room and weight room. The academic center allows student-athletes to have access to over 25 student tutors and mentors. There also is a computer lab with 31 work stations, five tutor rooms, a quiet study room that is monitored at all times and the offices of the full-time academic staff.
