GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Poor weather conditions dampered the Central Michigan cross country program but several individuals still were able to shine as they competed in the Michigan Intercollegiates on Friday, hosted by Calvin College.
The CMU women had improved times from several individuals, including
Kylee Kubacki who set a new personal-best with a time of 18:48.6 (20th).
Raeanne Lohner also showed well, finishing with a personal-best time of 19:00.5 (27th)
"On the women's side we had several improved times and did a good job of handling the conditions," head coach
Willie Randolph said. "It was nice to see a couple of our runners really step up."
Matt Lutzke ran well for the men's team, improving his time from his last race, the Michigan State meet. He finished 45th (26:35.8). Other Chippewas who ran well for the men's program included
Travis Gere (27:03.7) and Adam Smith (27:09.5).
"I am pleased with our progress today on the men's side. Even the fastest runners were a bit slower today due to the conditions," Randolph said. "Now we can turn our focus to the tasks ahead."
The Chippewas will be back in action on Oct. 17, at the Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
