MOUNT PLEASANT -- Four individuals from the Central Michigan cross country program earned All-Mid-American Conference honors during the MAC Championships on Saturday.
Riak Mabil and Sammy Kiprotich earned first-team All-MAC honors. Mabil finished as the meet's runner-up (25:42.7) and Kiprotich finished seventh (26:07.1). This marks the second straight year Kiprotich has earned first-team accolades, thanks to a seventh-place finish at the 2008 MAC Championships.
Also earning honors on the men's side was Matt Lutzke. The sophomore was named second-eam All-MAC after finishing 11th (26:20.7), helping the Chippewas finish third as a team with 59 points.
On the women's side, Melissa Darling became the first CMU runner to receive All-MAC honors since Jackie Rivard in 2006 (second team), earning first-team All-MAC honors. Darling finished seventh (22:35.7) and helped the CMU women take take fourth-place with a total of 116 points.
