The previous best individual finish by a Chippewa at the MAC Championship was a tie for 36th in 2017. Four of the Chippewas bettered that finish at this year’s event.
The Chippewas loaded the bases with two out in the eighth and got a run-scoring single from Evan Kratt to cut their deficit to 5-2. David Cole was thrown out trying to score from second base on the play, ending the inning and stranding two baserunners.
Down 10-9, the Chippewas got the game-tying goal from Shannon Doyle with 6:21 to play, and then Hamilton scored with 4:33 left to put CMU ahead for good.
Joseph, a junior from the U.S. Virgin Islands, won the College-Open Division of the javelin with a toss that measured 201 feet, 7 inches, which is a personal best.
