CMU never trailed by more than two points and that was in the opening minutes. Each time the sixth-seeded Tigers made a run, the 11th-seeded Chippewas answered with one of their own.
Griffin Lockwood-Powell had three hits, and David Cole and Evan Kratt added two apiece to lead CMU’s nine-hit attack in its 7-3 win in the nightcap. Cole drove in four runs, two of which came on an eighth-inning single.
Jocelyne Lemay recorded a team-high five goals for Central Michigan, while Jessica Schuchardt led the team in assists with four. Anna Schoonover added four goals.
The Chippewas (28-4) face No. 24 LSU (19-9) at 11:20 a.m. Saturday (ESPN2, WMHW-FM, 91.5) in first-round action of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
