The Chippewas are playing in a bowl game for the fourth consecutive year and for the 11th time as a Division I program. CMU’s last bowl win came on Jan. 6, 2010, when it defeated Troy, 44-41, in double overtime in the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
The Chippewas are ranked 14th in the nation in defense, allowing an average of 61.4 points per game. Last season, CMU surrendered an average of 87.7, which ranked 345th.
Catherine Ostoich comes to Mount Pleasant from Indiana, where she served as an assistant coach for the 2017 season. She was head coach at Missouri State in 2016, and she was an assistant coach at Davidson College in North Carolina for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Sophomore Sean Bunting has made his place in a secondary that is tied for second nationally among Football Bowl Subdivision teams with 19 interceptions this season.
